Service Oriented Architecture

To make your business work faster, do more and do it better, you’re going to need a solution that can tightly integrate your existing technology with that of your partners. A standard that will loosely-couple, not replace. This is Service Oriented Architecture. Jump into this Wisconsin SOA Summit Webcast to find out why:

Accessibility

The outcome of the Target vs. National Federation of the Blind is uncertain but it focuses attention on when and why you should consider building accessibility into your web presence or application. Designing in accessibility from the ground up is relatively easy. Adding it after the fact can add unexpected cost to a project.

Open Source Content Management Systems (CMS)

Content Management Systems are now available for web applications of any size thanks to some high quality open source projects. The two best known systems, Joomla! and Drupal, just had a photo finish for first and second place in the Packet Publishing sponsored 2006 Open Source Content Management System Award.

Both systems have a lot of strength. For example, they are edited and managed using just a standard web browser. The site administrators can assign different people to edit and update different parts of the site. Updates aren't published until approved by an administrator. Extensions are available to add new features as you need them.

They also have the typical weak documentation of open source projects, but we can help you get your system running, tuned, and ready for your public.

Web 2.0

To Trust or Not To Trust

Michael Swains delivers deeper delineation between what makes a Web 1.0 vs. Web 2.0 site and why the engineering of trust is so unique to the business model. Added German Language Bonus: learn the difference between Gemeinschaft and Gesellschaft. Hint: think ideal social structures.

Fad or Future?

We think the future — if it's done right. Here are a couple of views. One pessimistic. One optimistic.

Oracle

Developing .NET connected to an Oracle DB. Your company has recently jumped on the Oracle SOA bandwagon, and suddenly you as the .NET developer have a requirement to base your application on an Oracle Database. Conversely, your company is built on Oracle technologies and someone has asked you to build a simple .NET application that will tie to the database. How do I add references to Oracle class libraries? What is the connection string format? Which objects will be most important to me?

Setting up the Oracle XE Database, Oracle SOA Suite 10.1.3.1 and JDeveloper on a Development Workstation. (PDF). White paper presented by Erin Quick-Laughlin at the Nov. 17 Wisconsin Oracle Application Server Users Group (WOASUG). Erin is one of our top Oracle and Java developers.
